How-To Project
In this project, I learned a lot and it made me step outside of my comfort zone. One thing I learned about design is how you produce a more eye-catching work style the more you progress in your work. That’s at least what happened in my process. In the beginning, I felt lost in my work and wasn’t really feeling the booklet/poster or baseball card approach. When I designed my baseball cards, something felt like it was missing because I wasn’t satisfied with my work that I displayed. After my 1st critique, I was suggested to create coasters from the laser cutter and that intimidated me. As a designer though, I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and try a new design style that can really stand out on my portfolio. After being certified to use the laser cutter and doing all the specific steps in Adobe Illustrator to create my designs, I created 6 wooden coasters (that came out a little bit bigger than expected) and used the typeface “Hippie Movement” for my headers because I love the personalized look and “Raleway” for my body because its sophisticated and legible. What I learned from this project is to push myself a lot more and take advantage of the resources that’s given here at my college, Columbia College Chicago. Now that I know how to use the laser cutter, I feel a lot more advanced and knowledgeable as a designer.
